Library cooks up edible book contest

Edible book contests are popping up all over the country. This entry is from a recent contest in Santa Barbara, Calif.

The Mesa County Library will dish up some fun next week when they host their first Edible Book contest.

An edible book contest challenges readers to recreate their favorite novels into culinary art masterpieces. It’s a contest that has become widely popular at libraries across the nation.

Many contestants choose to recreate book covers using cake, frosting, cookies and candy while others build on a pun or theme using fruit and vegetables.

The contest will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Sat., July 9 ant the Central Library, 530 Grand Ave.

Prizes will be awarded for best pun, most book-like, most appetizing, and most creative. There will also be a “People’s Choice” award.

Contest rules are available at the library. Entries must arrive by noon and contrstants must be present at the event to win.
