Local TSA center accepts applications for quick screening
Frequent fliers from western Colorado can now apply for an expedited screening program in Grand Junction.
The Transportation Security Administration has opened a PreCheck application center at 1600 Ute Ave., Suite 151.
The PreCheck program requires a background check, fingerprints, and an application fee of $85 for a five-year membership.
Approved travelers will receive a known-traveler number and the opportunity to use TSA PreCheck lanes at security checkpoints at more than 100 participating airports and on nine major U.S. airlines.
Participating airlines include: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America.
The process will greatly increase the availability of TSA PreCheck benefits to a broader population of travelers, TSA Administrator John S. Pistole said, adding that the program will enable the agency to move away from a one-size-fits-all approach to transportation security.
Since its introduction, more than 30 million passengers nationwide have used TSA PreCheck.
Use of the program, however, doesn’t preclude passengers from being subject to random and unpredictable security measures throughout airports.
No individual is guaranteed expedited screening, the agency said.
U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents can begin the enrollment process online at http://www.TSA.gov and visit an application center to provide biographic information, such as name, date of birth, address, fingerprints, payment and valid documentation.
The Grand Junction enrollment center is on the east side of the building and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m.
The enrollment center is on the same side of the building as Landmark Baptist School.
