Local schools take first, second in state Knowledge Bowl competition

Grand Junction High School’s academic team won the state Knowledge Bowl title again this year, upholding a seven-year winning streak.

Grand Junction High School has taken home the state championship 14 of the last 15 years, according to team coach Lorena Thompson. The academic team will represent Colorado in a national Knowledge Bowl tournament May 25 in Chicago.

The team won in the 5A and the overall competition last weekend. Palisade High School, which sent its first Knowledge Bowl team ever to the state competition, placed second in the overall competition and first in the 4A category. Fairview High School in Boulder placed third in the state overall.

Fruita Monument High School placed third in the 5A competition.
