Locals artist competes for solo show in NYC

Justin Nordine, owner of Raw Canvas, is competing in an online contest to win a solo art show in NYC.

Local artist Justin Nordine would love to take his acrylic fine art to the next level by opening a solo show in New York City.

He’s vying for that opportunity through an online contest sponsored by 3rd Ward, a design studio and online magazine based in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The organization is dedicated to helping artists gain national and international exposure, which is just what Nordine is hoping for.

He submitted 15 pieces of art, including examples of how fine art can be translated into tattoo body art.

Nordine calls his current canvas pieces the “Urban Landscape Experience” and he explained that many of his canvas creations can be recreated on skin, which is what he does at his studio, Raw Canvas, 755 Rood Ave.

“Many of my paintings are translated into tattoos and that’s really a unique way to display my artwork,” he said.

This unique twist to fine art may be what the Websites readers are looking for. Many artists have submitted their work for consideration. The grand prize winner will not only win the show, but also $5,000 and a three month residency in New York.

“I’d just go crazy with that by painting and submitting my work to other outlets,” he said.

To vote for Nordine, visit http://shaustin.3rdward.com. The first round of voting ends July 22 and each computer can vote once every 24 hours. The first round winner will receive $1,000 plus a two-page feature in the magazine, then be entered to win as a final contestant for the solo show.
