Magician kicks off library reading program

Ann Lincoln performs a magic trick with the help of a young library patron in Palisade Tuesday morning.

Magician Ann Lincoln said the magic words that kicked off the Mesa County Libraries Summer Reading Program Tuesday morning at the Palisade Branch Library.

Lincoln’s performance received oohs and ahhs from both children and adults alike. As a professional magician and entertainer for more than two decades, Lincoln has been seen on ABC, PBS, the Disney Channel, Animal Planet, and Extreme Home Makeover.

She will perform this week at other library locations in the area. Her second show will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the De Beque Library and she’ll be at the Central Library at 2 p.m. She will perform again at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Fruita branch.

After the show, the children were invited to enroll in the reading program, whose theme this year is “One World, Many Stories.” The program includes a passport to help log the number of reading hours in order to collect a number of prizes. Children are encouraged to read at least one half-hour per day during the summer months.

As part of the program, there will be weekly events at the libraries including puppet shows, story times, and special programs for kids and teens.

Adults are encouraged to participate as well with prize drawings for restaurant gift certificates and gifts from Barnes and Noble.
