Magician will be featured at start of library reading program

On your mark, get set ... read!

The Summer Reading Program at Mesa County Libraries is set to begin Tuesday, May 31.

“One World, Many Stories” is the theme for the children’s side of the reading program, and the first events related to the program are performances by magician Ann Lincoln at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, at the Palisade Branch; 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the De Beque Branch; 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the Central Library; and 10 a.m. Thursday, June 2, at the Fruita Branch.

Storyteller David Novak will appear at 10:30 a.m. June 3 at the Collbran Branch; 2 p.m. June 3 at the Clifton Branch; 10 a.m. June 4 (as part of a storytelling celebration) at the Central Library; and 10 a.m. June 6 at the Orchard Mesa Branch.

The event to start the teen summer reading program, with the theme “You Are Here,” is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, on the lawn of the Central Library, 530 Grand Ave. Teen bands from Hill Street Music Studio will perform and there will be opportunities to tie dye and batik. Take something — pillowcases, bags, shirts — to tie dye.

Readers can register in advance for the program at http://www.mesacountylibraries. org. In-person registration begins May 31 at all library branches and will remain open through July. Participants are welcome to join at any time. Go to any branch library location or the website for information.
