Male victim identified in Fruitvale party shooting

A man who was shot repeatedly during an early morning party Saturday in Fruitvale was “stable” at a local hospital, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.

Burton “Butch” Shoebridge, 51, was wounded multiple times in the upper body. Investigators were working Monday to identify a motive for the shooting at 519 1/2 Florence Road, which was reported around 2:15 a.m.

Shoebridge was a party guest and did not live at the residence, Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Heather Benjamin said. She declined to comment on circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Investigators have interviewed several people but haven’t made any arrests, she said.

Neighbors interviewed Saturday night said a vehicle sped from the scene after shots rang out.
