Man, 18, accused of sex with 13-year-old
An 18-year-old Grand Junction man was arrested Monday on suspicion of sexual assault on a child.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Department says Alex Tyler Winn had sex with a 13-year-old girl twice in February. The girl, who had run away from home, told authorities the incidents were consensual, according to an arrest affidavit.
She said that since she had run away, she had been staying with Winn, who lives with his mother near the corner of 25 1/2 and Patterson roads, according to the arrest affidavit.
The girl told Winn she was 14, and she thought he was 17. According to Colorado law, sexual assault takes place if, “at the time of the commission of the act, the victim is less than fifteen years of age and the actor is at least four years older than the victim and is not the spouse of the victim.”
Winn had his initial court appearance Tuesday and was advised he could be charged with two counts of sexual assault on a child and two counts of sexual assault on a child with a pattern of abuse. Mesa County Judge Gretchen Larson set his bond at $60,000.
