Man, 19, accused of sexual relationship with girl, 13
A Grand Junction teen is facing sexual assault charges on suspicion that he and a girl have been having a sexual relationship over the past several months.
Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department arrested Joshua Thomas Green, 19, 419 Pintail Ave., after they discovered him and a 13-year-old girl naked in the back of a parked car.
Officers contacted the duo after they saw a pair of people ducking inside a car parked in a parking lot in the northwest part of the city, according to Green’s arrest affidavit,
When officers asked the duo to step out of the car, they saw Green and the teenager were naked, the affidavit said.
The 13-year-old girl told police the two have been in a sexual relationship over the past “few months,” according to the affidavit.
Police then took Green to the police station for an interview and impounded his silver Toyota sedan.
During Green’s first court appearance Tuesday, his attorney, Steve Laiche, told Mesa County Judge Bruce Raaum that there might be questions of whether the relationship was consensual.
Raaum said the suspect’s age and victim’s age make those considerations irrelevant under law.
Raaum set Green’s bond at $7,500 during a Tuesday hearing.
Green, according to jail records, bonded out shortly after the hearing.
