Man accused of sexual assault, rape of girls

A Grand Junction man was arrested Friday on suspicion of 66 offenses related to sexual assaults of several underage girls.

Nerio “Ned” Martinez, 36, is accused of sexually assaulting or raping multiple girls, including one who was assaulted 17 times, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Department on Friday released a heavily redacted version of Martinez’s affidavit.

It said Martinez became a focus of Sheriff’s Department investigators June 2 after a woman reported the girls had been assaulted over several years at separate homes. Investigators allege Martinez watched pornographic movies with at least one of the girls.

One girl said Martinez assaulted her five times, including several instances of inappropriate touching, the affidavit said.

Another girl described a series of sex acts done by Martinez, according to the affidavit.
Interviewed during the investigation, Martinez denied the allegations. He also submitted to a polygraph examination that indicated he was “deceptive” with his answers, the affidavit said.

Authorities executed a search warrant at his home, where a computer was seized containing numerous images of suspected child pornography, the affidavit said.

Martinez was arrested five times between 1995 and 1997 on charges including drug possession, felony theft and driving as a habitual traffic offender, according to court records.

The arrests resulted in a nine-year prison sentence in November 1997. It’s unclear how much time he actually served.

Martinez could face habitual-criminal charges, which could include a 64-year sentence.

He is being held at the Mesa County Jail on $300,000 bond.
