Man charged with first-degree murder in wife’s slaying
Prosecutors this morning filed charges of first-degree murder and misdemeanor child abuse against a Grand Junction man accused of stabbing his wife to death in front of the couple’s 2-year-old daughter.
Octavio Vargas-Herrera, 24, 3025 Mohawk Ave., was formally charged in a two-count complaint this morning in District Judge Valerie Robison’s courtroom.
The body of Jeana Ann Vargas, 23, was found by her husband’s brother inside her home the night of March 14, according to an arrest affidavit. She had suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck.
Vargas’ husband allegedly admitted to a Grand Junction police detective that he had stabbed her after she had told him she didn’t love him anymore, the affidavit said.
He is being held at the Mesa County Jail on $1 million bond.
