Man denies staging crash to cover up killing

DENVER — An Air Force veteran accused of killing his girlfriend and then staging a car crash to cover up the slaying says he’s innocent.

Twenty-four-year-old Robert Walters has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Brittney Brashers, another Air Force member he met while serving in Iraq. He’s being held in the Denver County jail.

Walters says he misses Brashers but won’t discuss the details of the case, fearing how his comments might affect his trial.

Walters was in Brashers’ car when it appeared to go out of control and crashed into two parked cars on Nov. 17 as they drove from Denver back to Colorado Springs.

Police say Walters confessed to his estranged wife and that some of those conversations are recorded.
