Man hit, killed by pickup

A man in his 50s was killed Thursday night after he was struck by a pickup outside a home in the 500 block of Sunrise Drive.

The man was hit in the street shortly after 9 p.m. Dispatch reports indicated the man was not conscious and not breathing. Emergency personnel confirmed the man had died shortly after.

Based on the accident scene, the truck continued past the man until it crashed through a fence of a neighboring house. It was not known Thursday night if the driver of the pickup involved was injured, arrested or walked away from the scene.

The truck also hit the passenger side of a Chevy Blazer parked on Sunrise Drive, but it is unclear whether the Blazer was hit before or after the man.

An elderly woman, who Mesa County sheriff’s authorities said was the victim’s mother, was taken from a residence on Sunrise Drive to the hospital by ambulance after suffering chest pains some time after the accident.

The Colorado State Patrol investigated the accident into the night.
