Man arrested after SWAT call in Clifton

A man wanted by authorities for allegedly eluding police on Sunday was arrested Monday night after Mesa County SWAT officers were called to a Clifton neighborhood.

Justin Stedtfeld, 26, surrendered just after 10 p.m. after walking out of 3209 Opal Court, unit 3, in Clifton, sheriff’s spokeswoman Heather Benjamin said.

Deputies on Monday received information that Stedtfeld was at the apartment, and he was known to have weapons, Benjamin said. SWAT officers evacuated occupants from three neighboring apartments, before speaking directly with Stedtfeld.

A $25,000 warrant for Stedtfeld’s arrest was issued Monday after he allegedly fled deputies who tried to contact him Sunday during a traffic stop.
