Man in coma after yard work injury

A Fruita man who was seriously injured Wednesday while doing yard work in Grand Junction was in a coma Thursday and listed in critical condition at St. Mary’s Hospital, according to the man’s wife.

Josh Gill, who works for Mesa Turf Masters, was injured when he hit a tree branch while riding a lawnmower at an apartment complex at 1600 Rood Avenue. Neighbors used a chain saw to cut away the branch and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Gill until paramedics arrived.

Bethany Gill, Josh’s wife, said by e-mail Thursday her husband is in the intensive care unit at the hospital and doctors were trying to decrease swelling in his brain. The couple has a 5-month-old daughter, Bethany Gill said.
