Man jailed after second contact by police

A 40-year-old homeless man was ticketed Friday and Saturday nights and was jailed after the second incident, Grand Junction police said.

Gil Katan received a ticket about 10:30 p.m. Friday on suspicion of theft, disorderly conduct and criminal tampering at Bookcliff Gas & Groceries, 2896 North Ave., Sgt. Kevin Imbriaco said.

On Saturday, Katan was ticketed on suspicion of trespassing and disorderly conduct at Loco Food Store, 107 Grand Ave. He was accused of insulitng a customer’s race and refusing to leave the store, Imbriaco said.

Katan ripped up the ticket and threw it at the officer and was arrested on suspicion of littering. He was then taken to Mesa County Jail, Imbriaco said.
