Man killed in crash on Highway 82 near Basalt

A 21-year-old man died Tuesday afternoon when his eastbound car crossed into westbound lanes of Colorado Highway 82 and struck another vehicle.

The female driver of the other vehicle suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to Aspen Valley Hospital, said Trooper Nate Reid of the Colorado State Patrol.

Troopers were dispatched to the scene at milepost 25 near Basalt at 2:14 p.m. Reid said they’re continuing to investigate what caused the accident. He said the road had some icy spots but was otherwise clear.

The man was driving a 2003 Honda sedan, and the woman a 2004 Volvo station wagon.

The man’s name was being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
