Man suspected of shooting at three people in vehicle
Ricardo Fernandez, 22, 271 1/2 W. Parkview Drive, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of shooting at three people inside a pickup.
Fernandez was arrested about 5:45 a.m. Saturday at his residence and booked into Mesa County Jail on suspicion of felony menacing and prohibited use of a weapon. No one in the vehicle was injured, but there were bullet holes in the truck, according to Grand Junction Police Department spokeswoman Kate Porras.
A man, a woman and another person whose gender Porras could not confirm Sunday arrived at Fernandez’s house to get the woman’s keys, Porras said. Hours earlier, the woman and Fernandez were in her car when she left the vehicle and Fernandez drove it away, according to Porras.
Fernandez later was accused of striking the woman sometime Saturday.
Based on additional information gathered from witnesses after Fernandez’s arrest, he was booked at the jail Saturday on suspicion of additional offenses: two counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection with shots fired at the pickup as it was driven away from his home, third-degree assault against the woman, first-degree auto theft of the woman’s car, and three counts of criminal mischief resulting in property damage.
Fernandez’s bond after his arrest was set at $3,000. A cash or surety bond of $150,000 was later added.
Fernandez was still in jail as of Sunday evening.
