Math Extravaganza taking place at Mesa State

Vanessa Pinela and Michael Simmons of Delta work on programming a robot during the Math Extravaganza taking place at Mesa State College.

The Math Extravaganza took place at Mesa State Thursday morning.

More than 100 area high school students including some from Delta and Rangely participated in a number of higher math exercises designed to engage and challenge their skills.

“It’s just a day for them to experience math that they normally wouldn’t do in high school and the opportunity to be on a college campus,” said Tracii Friedman, professor of mathematics at the college.

The program was designed with interactive and fun activities by MSC Math Club students. They included upper college level abstract algebra, computer programming and robotics.

“It’s a fun day and a way to show them what college math has to offer,” Friedman said.
