Mavericks top CSU-Pueblo
Less than two minutes after he subbed back into the game Sunday, Tim Hofer followed a deflection, lifting the Colorado Mesa University men’s soccer team (4-10-1, 4-7 RMAC) to a 1-0 victory at CSU-Pueblo (4-8-3, 4-5-2).
Hofer’s first goal of the season came 6 minutes, 22 seconds into overtime, ending an evenly played game. Both teams took 14 shots, with only four of the Mavs’ on goal, but they connected on the one that counted.
Micah Conrads made six saves to clinch the shutout, including gathering in a header with less than five minutes to play in regulation. With two minutes remaining in regulation, CMU’s Nick Labor’s shot sailed high of the goal, sending the game into overtime.
Each team missed two shots in OT, with Danny Molineaux’s attempt saved by CSU-Pueblo keeper Jacob Blum and Phil Neuwirth’s attempt going high.
Mesa’s defense blocked one shot, and another went wide, opening the door for Hofer’s winner.
