Meetings on school plans set for 2013

School District 51 plans to host its next community meeting in January.

The district began a series of quarterly meetings this school year, starting with a meeting Sept. 27 at the Fruita Community Center. The meetings are intended to be a chance for district officials to update citizens on current issues in the district and field suggestions, questions and concerns from community members.

The second of four meetings planned for the 2012-13 school year was tentatively scheduled to take place tonight at Grand Junction High School but the district decided to postpone the meeting due to scheduling difficulties, according to District 51 spokeswoman Christy McGee. McGee said the meeting is likely to take place in January instead at a yet-to-be-determined location.

The meetings will be scattered in different sections of the school district in order to gather as many opinions about schools in particular areas of the community as possible, McGee said.
