Mesa County early-voting total leads 3rd Congressional District

Republicans in Mesa County turned out strong in early voting, and Mesa County voters in general were more enthusiastic than their counterparts in Pueblo County, according to records released by the Mesa County Clerk and Recorder’s and Colorado Secretary of State’s offices.

Records released Friday by the Secretary of State’s Office showed 46,863 people had cast ballots in Mesa County and 41,687 in more populous Pueblo County. Pueblo and Grand Junction are the largest and second-largest cities in the state’s 3rd Congressional District.

A midday update by the Mesa County Clerk’s Office showed Mesa County Republicans turning out in greater numbers than Pueblo County Democrats, according to the offices, 24,846 Republicans in Mesa County to 21,108 Democrats in Pueblo County.

In the meantime, Mesa County Democrats cast 11,125 early ballots and Pueblo County Republicans 11,646.

Unaffiliated voters turned out with 13,452 votes in Mesa County and 8,505 in Pueblo County.
