Mesa County sets hearing on proposed BLM management plan for region

Mesa County is seeking guidance from the public about how to craft the county’s approach to a federal plan for more than 1 million acres in Mesa and surrounding counties.

An open house will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Jockey Room of the Mesa County Fairgrounds for comment on the draft resource management plan for the Grand Junction Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management.

County officials are seeking guidance on all aspects of the plan, but most of the discussion has been about the travel-management portion of the plan, said Pete Baier, public works director.

The deadline for public comment on the plan is June 24. County officials set a June 12 deadline for comments to the county, which will use them to craft its own comments to the federal agency.
