Mesa County supporters pour thousands into presidential coffers

Mesa County might not be so affluent as Aspen or as populous as Denver and its surrounding suburbs, but the area funneled more than $70,000 to presidential hopefuls Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., this election cycle.

McCain outpaced Obama in overall Mesa County fundraising, netting $46,263 to Obama’s $24,627.

Mesa County’s presidential contributions totaled 0.5 percent of the nearly $13.3 million that Colorado donors have given the two candidates.
