Mesa State will open new dorm this week

Mesa State College students will have a new place to rest their heads when a North Avenue residence hall opens this week.

The residence hall will offer suites for up to six roommates, free laundry facilities, a computer lab, study lounges and a community room. The second through the fifth floors of the residence hall will house suites, and the first floor will have shops.

The Bike Shop, Main Street Bagels Bakery & Cafe, and My Cellular plan to move into storefronts on the first floor. A juice store and a barber shop have shown interest in moving into storefronts as well.

Bonds paid for the $34.2 million construction project, according to Colorado budget documents.

The bonds will be paid off with rent money from the students living in the hall.

The hall has room to house 304 students.
