Mesa County coroner seeks re-election

Photo by Gretel Daugherty—Dr. Dean Havlik, the Democratic nominee for Mesa County coroner, will be running unopposed for election in November. The Republican party has no nominee for the elected position.

Mesa County coroner Dean Havlik announced Thursday his plans to seek re-election.

Havlik, who is a board-certified forensic pathologist, said that in the three years he’s been in the post:

The office implemented a new paperless system for its reports.

The office now maintains detailed data collection of deaths in the county with a new, user-friendly system that makes it easier to analyze.

He instituted the practice of releasing an annual report.

And he hired a new deputy coroner.

“I have enjoyed my time as coroner these past three years, and a lot has been accomplished in this short period of time,” he said in a statement.
