Mesa State, Delta school district win statewide awards

Mesa State College and Delta County School District 50J are two of 11 recipients of this year’s Commissioner’s Choice Awards.

The awards, granted each February by the Colorado Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit education-support organization, recognize districts, schools and educators who show leadership or innovation in education.

At an award’s luncheon Feb. 8 in Denver, Mesa State will receive the Excellence in Educator Preparation award, along with the Douglas County Schools Alternative Licensure program, for helping prepare effective teachers for the classroom.

District 50J will get the Innovative District Practice to Drive Student Achievement award for encouraging innovative cooperation between schools in the district to meet student needs.

This is the third year of the Commissioner’s Choice Awards.
