Mesa State to host farmers markets
The Mesa State College Wellness Team will host farmers markets from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday through Sept. 9, beginning today.
The markets will take place in the courtyard west of the College Center.
The market will focus on a different wellness component each week. Today’s market will focus on intellectual wellness. Other weeks will carry a theme of emotional, environmental, financial, mental, occupational, physical, social, and spiritual wellness.
The team decided to host a farmers market for the first time to offer students, staff, alumni and community members easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables, according to an information packet created by the wellness team. Proceeds from vendor fees will benefit programs at the college that encourage healthy living and positive lifestyle choices.
Any vendor who sells food, farm products, hand-made merchandise, or homemade prepackaged food products can contact Mesa State Manager of Wellness and Fitness Programs Emily Sanger at 248-1126 to find out more about participating in the markets. Spots are open for farmers, entertainers, arts and crafts proprietors, food sellers and nonprofit and government organizations.
Vendors who wish to participate in the last five weeks of the farmers market series can reserve a space for $65, which is due July 25.
