Familiar faces join school panel at swearing-in ceremony Tuesday
School board members Greg Mikolai, Tom Parrish and John Williams were sworn in for four-year terms on the board Tuesday evening at the Basil T. Knight Center.
This is Mikolai’s second four-year term and Parrish’s first time on the board. Mikolai appointed Williams to the board in August to fill a vacancy left by the death of late board member Harry Butler.
Mikolai was given a second two-year term as board president and Williams became the board’s vice president, replacing outgoing board member Leslie Kiesler. Board member Ann Tisue nominated Williams for president but Williams declined, though he thanked Tisue for the nomination.
Board member Jeff Leany nominated Tisue for the vice president position and Parrish nominated Williams for the post. Board members cast private ballots to decide who would get the job, splitting 3-2 in Williams’ favor.
Leany nominated Tisue for the vice president post two years ago as well, moments after the two were sworn in as first-time board members. Leany also nominated Tisue in 2011 for board president, but she lost both positions in 3-2 votes.
Leany was the sole nominee to continue his role as representative to the Colorado Association of School Boards Delegate Assembly, and Tisue agreed to continue her role as representative to the Grand Valley Board of Cooperative Educational Services.
The board’s first business meeting with its new roster will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Basil T. Knight Center.
