Military aircraft on display today
MONTROSE — The Montrose County Regional Airport is hosting its annual Airport Appreciation Day today with a variety of military aircraft from the U.S. Navy and Air Force on display.
The event begins at 8 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. Admission is free.
Some of the military planes showcased will be a Navy F/A-18 Hornet, F-16 Falcon, KC-135 Stratotanker and a Knighthawk helicopter from California.
About eight military aircraft will be available for public viewing.
All display aircraft will be located on the Black Canyon Jet Center ramp south of the commercial passenger terminal.
Free airplane rides will be available to children ages 8-17 in civilian aircraft at a large hangar on the south ramp behind the Shell gas station off North Townsend Avenue.
Navy aviator and Ouray High School graduate Lt. Ian Rasmussen and Lt. Col. Christopher Colcord, a Nucla native, will be on hand to share their experiences.
