Mineral-lease applications available

The Mesa County Federal Mineral Lease District is now accepting applications for grants intended to deal with the effects of energy development.

The district accumulated approximately $1 million and it distributes the money in its spring funding cycle and other cycles.

Under the traditional grant program, the district awards grants of as great as $400,000. Its mini-grants program makes awards of up to $50,000.

Applications will be accepted until March 14 and are available at http://www.mesaFML.org.

Grants may be made to organizations, the state or local governments to plan and construct or maintain public facilities or the provision of public services.

Money for the program comes from the state’s 49 percent share of revenues paid to the federal government for drilling or mining on federal lands.
