Mom accused of giving pot to juveniles
A 39-year-old Grand Junction woman who appeared in court Thursday is alleged to have provided marijuana to, and consumed marijuana with, her 13-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son.
An arrest affidavit for Rebecca Wright includes alleged text messages between Wright and the girl in which Wright specifically discusses the use of marijuana in the home.
“In one thread (the girl) asks, ‘OK can I smoke anything?’ and Rebecca replies, “Yes, the bong in my bedroom should be loaded.’ (The girl) responds asking, “The bong I usually hit?’ and Rebecca answers, “U can grab whichever.’,” an affidavit reads.
Police were notified of the allegations by the children’s father, who splits custody of the two with Wright.
Other texts included by police as evidence indicate Wright also was aware of marijuana use by her 17-year-old son. The girl allegedly disclosed to police that she has smoked marijuana with her mother and brother in the past.
Wright was advised of possible charges including the transfer of less than one ounce of marijuana to a minor, a felony, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, also a felony, and misdemeanor child abuse.
She was granted a personal-recognizance bond on Thursday.
