Montrose deputy on unpaid leave

Montrose County Sheriff Rick Dunlap placed a sergeant on administrative leave without pay while the Montrose Police Department investigates of allegations of child abuse.

The sergeant wasn’t identified by the Sheriff’s Office, which noted there had been no arrests and no charges filed.

Investigations are being conducted by the police in concert with the Mesa County Department of Human Services.

The Sheriff’s Office’s policy is that any employee who is the subject of a criminal investigation is placed on administrative leave without pay pending completion of the investigation.

The sheriff also is conducting an internal investigation into this matter.
