Montrose trio all fall in wrestling quarterfinals

Jesus Casillas, Matt Sandoval and Marcus Velasquez all lost their quarterfinals matches while competing at the Class 4A Colorado High School State Wrestling Championships.

Sandoval was pinned by Jace Lopez of Rooselvelt in 1:38. Velasquez was leading 11-4 in the third period when Thomas Chisholm caught him in a body toss putting Velasquez’ shoulder to the mat and pinning him with :48 remaining. Casillas lost 2-1 to Robert Bishop-Cotner of Windsor.

With the loss, all three now moves to the consolation bracket with the opportunity to finish as high as third place. The tournament continues through Saturday evening in Denver at the Pepsi Center.
