Montrose announces finalists for its city manager position

MONTROSE — The city of Montrose reduced 73 applicants for city manager to the following six finalists:

William Bell, city administrator of Rhinelander, Wis.

Stephen Giesbrecht, city administrator of Electra, Texas.

Robert Karlinsey, city administrator of Gig Harbor, Wash.

Maryann Ustick, acting city manager of North Las Vegas.

Don Van Wormer, city manager of Monte Vista, Calif.

Richard Warne, who has 28 years past experience in city government.

The city will host a candidate reception from 5 to 7 p.m. May 5 at the Montrose Pavilion.

The candidates the next day will face an interview panel, including members of the Montrose City Council, various city department officials and a panel of visiting city administrators.

According to acting City Manager Scott Sellers, the city could make an official decision later in May.

The new manager will succeed Mary Watt, and Sellers will return to being the assistant city manager, a title he has had for the past three years before Watt resigned.
