Montrose city manager resigns

Montrose City Manager Mary Watt resigned after more than 37 years of service to the city, the past five years as city manager, according to a city news release Thursday.

Assistant City Manager Scott Sellers will serve as acting city manager as directed by the Montrose City Council until a permanent replacement is found.

The city said an intensive, nationwide recruitment process will begin in February.

Watt began her career with the city in 1973, serving as a secretary to the city manager. Six years later, Watt was appointed city clerk and held that position for 25 years before taking the reins as city manager in August 2005.

Watt replaced former City Manager John Schneiger.

“On behalf of myself, council, past councils, staff and the citizens of Montrose, I extend our sincere appreciation to Mary for her 37 years of dedication, expertise, accomplishments and loyalty,” Montrose Mayor Kathy Ellis said in the news release.
