Montrose County taps new manager

Former Assistant Garfield County Manager Jesse Smith is expected to be named Montrose County manager next week, officials announced Thursday.

The Montrose County Commission will appoint Smith on Monday. His first day on the job will be Jan. 4.

Smith recently moved to Montrose from Garfield County, where he served as the assistant county manager for eight years and was involved in the development of the oil and gas industry there. His background includes professional credentials in local government, higher education and the private sector, Montrose County officials said.

Smith was selected from a pool of nearly 60 applicants. He replaces Joe Kerby, who resigned in September.

“We are excited to welcome Jesse to Montrose County,” County Commissioner Gary Ellis said in a statement. “In addition to several years of government management experience and the ability to represent a broad cross-section of organizational leadership, Mr. Smith demonstrates the ability to openly interact and communicate with different facets of the community to promote an open and cohesive approach to county management.”
