Motorcyclist, 60, dies after bike hits pickup
A Colorado State Patrol trooper said alcohol or drug intoxication was a suspected factor in a crash Saturday night in Delta County that killed a 60-year-old motorcyclist.
Christopher Sorensen of Delta was riding a 1994 Harley Davidson south on Colorado Highway 65, around milepost 4.5 near Orchard City, when the motorcycle slammed into the back of 2006 Ford F250 driven by 31-year-old Willis Olson of Cedaredge, according to State Trooper Nate Reid. The crash was reported at 6:42 p.m.
Olson’s truck had slowed to avoid hitting a deer, Reid said.
Sorensen was thrown from his motorcycle after hitting the truck. He was not wearing a helmet, Reid said. Sorensen died at Delta County Memorial Hospital.
Olson wasn’t injured.
Reid said initial investigation showed intoxication was a suspected factor, although a report didn’t indicate whether it involved Olson or Sorensen.
Delta County Coroner Kevin Lucy said he didn’t believe alcohol factored in the death investigation, but toxicology will be reviewed in Sorensen’s pending autopsy.
Troopers continue to investigate the accident.
