Motorcyclist dies after running stop sign

Grand Junction police officers investigate Saturday after a fatal accident between a Toyota Tacoma pickup and a motorcycle at the intersection of 28 Road and Elm Avenue.

A man riding a motorcycle was killed after he collided with a pickup at the intersection of 28 Road and Elm Avenue, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

The crash was reported at 8:15 a.m. Saturday after a man driving a motorcycle east on Elm Avenue failed to stop for the stop sign and ran into the passenger side of the pickup driving south on 28 Road, according to the Police Department.

The motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup was uninjured.

The names of both drivers were not released.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors. However, the Police Department said the motorcycle’s speed is being examined as a “significant factor.”

Police did not say if the motorcycle driver was wearing a helmet.
