UPDATED: Utah motorcyclist killed in crash on Highway 141

A 74-year-old man was killed Monday after his motorcycle plunged off Highway 141.

Patrick J. Mungari, of St. George, Utah, was with a group of 11 riders northbound when his motorcycle drifted off the right side of the highway and down a steep embankment, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The 2005 Honda Goldwing slammed into the embankment, ejecting Mungari from the motorcycle.

He was wearing a helmet.

The crash was reported around 11:47 a.m. at mile post 149, about five miles south of the highway’s intersection with U.S. Highway 50.

Excessive speed was a suspected factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, troopers said in a news release.
