MSC gears up for 2010 graduation

Beth Kramer and Tyler Glassman filled out order forms for their caps and gowns Thursday morning at the MSC Grad Fair.

The graduating class of 2010 at Mesa State College are so close they can almost taste it.

This week the college’s Alumni Association and the MSC Bookstore teamed up with local area businesses to help graduates celebrate in style.

Graduates were welcomed into the real world at the first Grad Fair in the Grand Mesa Residence Hall. The fair included 11 vendors offering checking accounts, party and catering supplies, plus orders for caps, gowns and class rings.

“The Grad Fair is a way to welcome students to the alumni association as well as order their caps and gowns and connect with post-graduation services, like Sam’s Club memberships,” said Rick Adleman, director of alumni relations for the college.

Gail Mueller was helping students understand the graduates degrees available at Mesa State, including the Master’s in Business program. She used herself as an example of how the program could improve a career position and further business opportunities. Mueller is a general manager at Monroe Pump, having started as an accountant, but earned her degree to obtain the higher position of manager in the company.

“We wanted to have this fair now before graduates get too caught up in finals, parties and the graduation procedure,” Adleman explained. He hopes to expand the fair next year to include more post-graduation employment opportunities.

Adleman was also taking fun class pictures of the class of 2010. Those photos are available at
