Suzy Bogguss knows what the view is like at the top of the country music charts.

She has received raves from critics and her peers and won the Country Music Association’s Horizon Award in 1992 and Album of the Year Award in 1994. In 2005, she was awarded a Grammy for her work on “Beautiful Dreamer, The Songs of Stephen Foster.”

The multi-talented, platinum-selling singer/songwriter will perform at a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Avalon Theatre, 645 Main St.

Bogguss’ latest album, 2007’s “Sweet Dance,” like all of her previous work, is filled with songs emotional integrity, according to a news release.

On the album, Bogguss covers Chicago’s “If You Leave Me Now,” creating a “totally new vibe by stripping the song down to its emotional core and rebuilding it with a tight acoustic ensemble,” the news release said.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit Mosaic of Grand Junction, a local nonprofit that provides services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Tickets are $25.
