New owner renting out old brothel
The neon sign is gone from the front window at 762 Horizon Drive.
So are the massage tables.
Federal agents didn’t even bother salvaging an old hot tub, wary about its past.
While long-term plans haven’t been determined for the property that once housed a brothel at Fuji Oriental Massage Therapy, the building is up for rent, according to its new owner.
“I think it would be perfect for a medical or insurance office, something like that,” said Grand Junction resident John Spendrup.
John O. Spendrup LLC was the successful bidder at $310,000 during an auction of the property in April, according to records from the U.S. Department of Treasury.
Spendrup said his interest in the property at the time was good business. Spendrup also owns the Grand Junction Flee Market & Swap Meet, 515 S. Seventh St.
“It was a good deal,” he said of the building purchase. “There’s (a butt) for every seat.”
The building was seized by federal authorities in November 2008 after the closure of Fuji Massage and the arrest of its owner, Nan O’Reilly.
O’Reilly told investigators her business had been offering sex to customers on a regular basis since 1997.
O’Reilly, 61, was found dead in a Las Vegas hotel room on March 15, less than a week after learning she faced a possible prison sentence for allegedly violating probation relating to the Grand Junction prostitution probe. The Clark County Coroner’s office said she suffered a heart attack, citing natural causes for the death.
