New ownership for Mesa Mall

Simon Property Group, the nation’s largest shopping-mall owner, has assumed full ownership and operation of Mesa Mall as part of a division of assets between Simon and previous mall owner Macerich.

The transfer of ownership took effect Jan. 1.

“We are delighted to add Mesa Mall to our portfolio of high quality properties and look to continuing to enhance its performance,” David J. Contis, president of Simon’s mall platform, said in a prepared statement.

The roughly 850,000-square-foot Mesa Mall opened in 1980. Macerich, based in Santa Monica, Calif., acquired it in 1997.

Indianapolis-based Simon owns or has an interest in 392 properties, including three others in Colorado: Town Center at Aurora; and Colorado Mills and Denver West Village in Lakewood.
