No charges in fatal motorcycle accident

The Grand Junction Police Department on Tuesday said the driver of a pickup that collided with a motorcyclist in a fatal accident near Mesa Mall earlier this month will not face charges.

An investigation showed the rider of a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle, 47-year-old Ellis Jensen of Riverdale, Utah, pulled out from the east exit of Mesa Mall into oncoming traffic in an attempt to turn north on 24 1/2 Road around 11 a.m. Sept. 10, according to a Police Department accident report.

Jensen’s motorcycle was struck by a Chevrolet pickup driven by 45-year-old Remijio Galvan of Grand Junction, who was headed south on 24 1/2 Road at the time of the collision.

Jensen was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Mesa County Coroner’s office said Jensen’s injuries would not have been life-threatening had he been wearing an approved helmet.

Police spokeswoman Kate Porras said detectives were unable to locate and interview a pair of motorcycle riders who witnesses said were riding near Jensen at the time of the accident.

The investigation has been closed, Porras said.
