A fireworks vendor in Grand Junction reported the theft of more than $1,000 worth of fireworks early Saturday.

The fireworks were taken from a tent at 2839 North Ave. after the business had closed Friday night.

The business had hired overnight security for the tent, according to a police report. The security officer saw at least one person leave the tent with fireworks after 1 a.m. and phoned police, according to Grand Junction police officer Shawn Hasty. The security officer was not able to catch the suspect.

Police responded to the fireworks tent at 1:40 a.m. but were not able to find the suspect.
