'New Landscapes’ paintings featured
The First Friday gallery opening event at The Art Center on Friday, Jan. 9, features some firsts, but also a second look at ongoing exhibits.
For the past month, painter John Lintott and clay artist Terry Shepherd have had a joint exhibit in the gallery.
Lintott said the response to his “New Landscapes” exhibit of 25 oil painting has been “totally wonderful.”
All of the regional landscape paintings were done within the last year, he said.
His foray into landscapes came from a desire to challenge himself, take advantage of the scenery in western Colorado and try something different.
A few years before his landscape phase he focused on cows and then figures.
“It just got to the point where I had nothing else to say about cows ... I felt like I had gotten proficient with figures and I broke off and wanted to focus on landscapes,” Lintott said. “About every year I start getting an itch for something different.”
He hasn’t felt that itch to paint something other than landscapes, yet.
“I’m still going to be painting landscapes indefinitely,” Lintott said. “I always want to push my technique and my paint application — try and see if I can paint something I painted a year or two ago better and different.”
Lintott’s paintings are for sale and range in size and price.
Exhibits opening this Friday are The Art Center’s 37th annual Members Exhibit and the Junction Clay Arts Guild Members Exhibit. All of the exhibits will stay up until Jan. 24 or 30.
The event is free and open to the public. Hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Also on Friday, The Art Center at 6:30 p.m. will also have an official unveiling of its new solar panels installed by High Noon Solar.
