One dead, one arrested in early morning fatal accident
Police arrested 21-year-old Jesse O. Reed on suspicion of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol after he crashed his sport utility vehicle into a light pole early Sunday morning, killing one of his passengers.
The force of the impact ejected the front seat passenger through the windshield, according to the Grand Junction Police Department. The passenger died at the scene.
The Mesa County Coroner’s Office had not released the name of the dead passenger Sunday.
The crash occurred at 2 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 6&50 and
24 3/4 Road. The vehicle was westbound on U.S. 6&50.
Reed and Charles Troutman, 19, were treated for minor injuries.
Troutman, the back seat passenger, was issued a summons on suspicion of being a minor in possession of alcohol.
Kate Porras, spokeswoman for the Grand Junction Police Department, said Reed’s arrest affidavit was not available Sunday evening,
According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Reed has not been previously arrested as an adult in Colorado.
