Grand Junction Police investigate the scene of a street fight in the 1200 block of Main Street early Saturday morning. Police were called to the scene of a group fighting in the street with bats and crow bars.

One man was taken to the hospital early Saturday morning after a fight in the 1200 block of Main Street.

Grand Junction Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 2 a.m. on reports of a street fight between youths with bats and crowbars.

The officers found a male victim in the street with serious injuries, including a head injury. A cameraman from a local television station recorded video showing a police officer performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man. A news release issued by the Police Department before 6 a.m. Saturday said the man’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

A responding officer said when the police vehicles arrived, the group of people who had been fighting scattered. The block was closed for a few hours after the incident for investigation.

Witnesses noted numerous beer cans littered the street.

Police offered no further details Saturday, saying the incident is under investigation.
