Orchard Mesa pool open after restoration

CHRISTOPHER TOMLINSON/The Daily Sentinel—Orchard Mesa Community Center Pool reopened after plaster was restored at the bottom of the pool and on walking areas. The pool will be close briefly later this month so that locker room floors can be redone.

Young swimmers splashed around in Orchard Mesa Community Center Pool on Sunday as several birthday parties were underway.

The pool was closed for about three months but is open again after the bottom of the pool surface and walking surfaces were replastered. The reception area is now outfitted with a sleeker desk.

The pool will be closed again from Dec. 16 to Dec. 20 as crews replaster floors in the locker rooms.

After that, the city of Grand Junction will hold an official reopening party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10. There is free admission to the pool and water slide. The first 100 people in the doors will receive treats and there will be giveaways during the ceremony.

The pool had been closed since Sept. 2.
